This is Chloe and Chris’ Story

Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe, Devon is up there with my absolute favourite UK wedding venues. I do a little happy dance every time I book a new wedding there! So I was over the moon when Chloe and Chris got in touch about their Tunnels Beaches elopement to take place in February.

Their intimate gathering of just 19 close family members included three children and two babies, plus their own daschund, Peggy and their parents’ dog for company! It sounded wonderful and the perfect way for me to kick off my 2023 wedding season.

Tunnels Beaches is stunning, come rain or shine. I’ve captured weddings there in all weathers, and often an unpredictable mix of sun and storms, as often happens on the North Devon coast. But on this occasion, the rain stayed away and the sun manged to break through the cloud after their outdoor ceremony, making for the most beautiful light on our little walk with Peggy on the beach.

After the meal and some emotional speeches, Peggy enjoyed her second walk of the day – this time around Tunnels Beaches’ incredibly photogenic tidal pool. The stormy skies made the most atmospheric and romantic backdrop to their walk (perfect for dramatic photos!) and the four of us headed back inside exhilarated and ready for a relaxed first dance with Peggy in tow!

Many couples who get married at Tunnels Beaches choose to have sparklers inside one of the four historic Tunnels which were handcarved into the cliffs in the 1820s. Chloe and Chris were no exception and their walk through the family-lined tunnel lit up with sparklers was simply the perfect end to their perfect day.

Whether you’re considering an intimate elopement or a much larger celebration, Tunnels Beaches is perfect for lovers of nature and the great outdoors. I’ve photographed couples from all over the UK who choose this unique venue for its chilled vibe and stunning views.

Posing is definitely not required – simply walk along the beach or around the tidal pool (and often both at different times of the day) and I’ll use the seascape and the light as my guide. Chloe and Chris told me that one of the reasons they chose me as their photographer was because they feel uncomfortable posing and wanted to keep things natural, while still ending up with beautiful couple photos. If that sounds like you and you’ve enjoyed their photos, please do get in touch.

Even if it’s raining on your special day, you’ll still get stunning photos – just embrace the English weather and bring your wellies. I always come armed with a raincoat and camera protectors for the more extreme downpours. So grab a Tunnel’s umbrella, let your dress down (that’s what dry cleaners are for and anyway, you’re only wearing it once) and we’re good to go!
